Bhimashankar Trek
Bhorgiri is a small village which is located 100 kilometers from Pune and 223 kilometers from Mumbai. Bhorgiri village is surrounded by three mountains so wherever you run your eyes you would see lush greenery everywhere. During the monsoons imagine endless waterfalls cascading down these mountains. It takes about three hours to reach the base of Bhimashankar, Bhorgiri from Pune. This does qualify as a one day trek if you leave at 6 am in the morning from Pune you could start climbing roughly around 9.30 am. It takes roughly around three hours depending on the speed. It is an eight km trek through a dense forest.

But let's get on to know more about this route and what makes it so special? Situated at the height of 3,250 feet, the view from the top is splendid. At the apex, there is a Shiva temple which is amongst one of the twelve traditional 'Jyotilingam' shrines of Lord Shiva in India. Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary is another important reason why people come here. The trek route is through a dense jungle and provides many opportunities for nature lovers, particularly photographers and animal lovers to spot giant squirrels along the way. On your way up you can shower in the Gupta Bhima Waterfall or simply dip your feet. The refreshing cold water will take away all the soreness and make this trek fun!

On your way up you will find multiple small temples such as the Anjali Mata temple and at the top is a well constructed temple where pilgrims come to pay their respects. There are a lot of small stalls selling food and drinks which makes it a good pitstop. As you enter the temple you will spot a huge Persian bell which was once gifted by a Peshwa king. The architecture is about 1,400 years old. So. this trek is more than just a trek, there is a little something for everyone nature, wildlife, waterfall and more.
