Too Much ‘Kaadha’ Triggering Health Issues And It's Time To Slow Down The Chugging Fest!

Are your desi nuskhe and herbal kaadhas that claim to protect you against Coronavirus doing all good to your health or is there a flip side too? According to experts, overuse of Kaadhas might be negatively impacting your health and you must be wary of that.

kaadhaSince the beginning of the pandemic, Kaadhas and immunity boosting herbal concoctions have become our best pals. Subha uthte he kaadha, lunch ke baad kaadha, dinner ke baad kaadha, this has become the routine for most of us. And why shouldn’t that be, in this war against the pandemic, these gross tasting magic potions seem to be the only way to fight it on an individual level. But, wait! Are these kaadhas all beds of roses? Well, according to the experts they aren’t.

kaadhaAs per the experts, people have been facing an array of health issues and ailments thanks to the overuse of these kaadhas. Not just boils and mouth ulcers, but gastritis and constipation is also a common occurrence amongst the avid users of these herbal drinks. Talking about the negative impact of these, city based senior physician Hillary Rodrigues informed Times of India, “People have been overusing such kaadhas or concoctions since March, with the adverse effect showing now. Around 10-15 patients come to my clinic each week with physical complaints relating to overuse of various immunity boosting decoctions.”

kaadhaAnother city based doctor and president of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Avinash Bhondwe also narrated a similar tale. He said that over the last two months hundreds of patients visited him with complaints like mouth ulcers and at least 10 patients reported bleeding piles. It was noted that since these drinks are infused with hot spices, such decoctions have a high pH too, which leads to metabolism related issues as well.

kaadhaPhysician Manisha Lakhani who has been treating patients with issues like acidity, gastritis, lack of appetite, weakness and mouth ulcers triggered by these Kaadhas pointed that people have been following messages circulating on the social media blindly. Just like any other medication, these are also supposed to be taken only with a prescribed dosage and in small quantities. The indiscriminate use of the herbal drinks is leading to major ailments amongst the masses.
As the saying goes, excess of everything is bad, you need to slow down on the consistent chugging now.
