lohagad
Lohagad or the iron fort is located in Lonavala. Also known as the twin fort as it shares the fortification with Visapur. Another popular tourist and trekking spot in Maharashtra. Built back in the 18th century, the Lohagad fort is coupled with many winding hairpin bends and steps that lead you to the fort and atop the hill.

It is when you reach the top that you can see the vast, lush green landscape and overlooks the Pavana reservoir. The end top of Lohagad is also called Vinchukada (scorpion's tail) because of its resembling shape. But here we’re bringing your attention to the pond also known as Lohagad Talav that is located on top of the hill. As the fort was once under the Maratha Empire, people lived and guarded the fort. A steady water supply was needed. In comes the pond, which is present to this day.

One can trek up the fort and take a dip into the stone carved pond that is about eight to 10 feet deep. But be warned, the bottom is lined with sharp rocks and you can be subjected to some injury if not careful. In the monsoons, the landscape is lush and green and the pond is brimming with water. A dip in the pond can be very satisfying. We suggest you pack your swimsuit with you trekking gear. You can also sit around the pond and dip your feet and let the little fish nibble at them. Or if all else fails, carry a book that will give you company and make a picnic out of it.

P.S. There have been cases where people have lost their lives by jumping into the pool. We suggest you swim with caution and not try any stunts that could be lethal.
