Trishund Ganpati Temple

Hiding in plain sight, this 250-year-old temple is one of the most beautiful temples that you would have ever seen. Decorated with intricate carvings on black stone, the Trishund Ganpati Temple was constructed with a direct accessibility from the banks of Nagzari stream in 1770. And mind you people, don’t have it mistaken to be yet another Ganpati temple in Pune. As the name suggests, the temple has a rare idol of Lord Ganesha with three trunks and six hands, seated on a peacock which is an extremely rare sight in itself. The temple is constructed on a high platform and has a small courtyard in the front which is decorated with earthen diyas, lights and flowers frequently on special occasions and festivals by the locals.

One of the most renowned Ganpati temples in Pune, Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple needs no introduction. This revered temple is  visited by the locals as well as tourists with the same gusto. According to legends, a man named Dagdusheth Gadve, a sweet maker from Karnataka built this temple to ease his pain of losing his son to an epidemic. Infact, you will be amused to know that the temple has a pivotal role in establishing the much adored Ganesh Utsav. It was Lokmanya Tilak who suggested that a public event should be organised each year to celebrate the glory of the lord. Since then, Ganesh Utsav has become one of the most popular festivals not only in the state but in the whole country. Each year, the two meter tall idol is decorated with nearly 40 kilos of gold and thousands  come here to pay their respects. This gorgeous temple situated in the heart of Pune still remains one of the most popular temples even after a century.

Chintamani Temple

Located near the confluence of Bhima river and Mula-Mutha river this is the fifth temple to be visited in the Ashtavinayak circuit. According to folklore, God Brahma used to meditate at this very location and when he couldn’t concentrate, Ganesha got rid of his ‘Chintas’ (worries) and the place came to be known as Chintamani. The temple has many other fascinating tales associated with it. Temple had a huge following during the Pershwa era and was renovated multiple times by Madhavrao I. Other than being soothing to the soul, the temple is also known for its exemplary architecture. As you enter the temple, you will find a beautiful wooden mandap in the center followed by a gorgeous black stone water fountain in the hall too.

Kasba Ganpati

Kasba Ganpati holds a special importance in the hearts and minds of Punekars and why shouldn’t that be the case, after all this particular Ganpati deity is considered to be the gram devta of Pune. Nestled close to the Shaniwar Wada, this 16th century temple has a fascinating folklore attached to it. It is said that a man named Vinayaka Bhatt Thakar from Karnataka came to the city to settle with his family and stumbled upon a naturally-carved idol of Lord Ganesh. He even dreamt Lord Ganesha ordering him to install an idol of him at the spot that is today known as Kasba Ganpati temple. Even after centuries, the love and devotion for this temple has stayed intact and each day hundreds of devotees visit this temple seeking for the lord's blessings.

Shri Dashbhuja Ganpati Mandir

The name Dashbhuja means the one with ten arms and thus, you’ll find that the magnificent idol of lord Ganesha here has ten arms which makes this temple unique. Also, the trunk of the idol is on the right instead of the left which is considered to be even more auspicious. The temple is popular amongst the locals and each year on Ganesh Chaturthi, devotees from all around the city come here to celebrate the festival with fervour and joy.
