Shaswat Shukla
A story of courage, inspiration, hard work, turmoil, a ton of sweat and dedication, this one’s sure to touch your heart. Back in 2007 at the tender age of 15, Shashwat who was back then known for his super performances in the 1500 metres races, met with a terrible accident that led to his left foot getting bent by almost 5 inches. This physical disability led to many an issue in the man’s life. Running, now that almost seemed like an unachievable task; for even daily activities such as sitting, standing, and wearing jeans or track pants became strenuous for the lad. RunningWhen all hope seemed to fade away, one fine day, when Shukla was on the banks of the river Ganga, he discovered that he wasn’t finding it all that hard to walk barefoot. With advice and guidance from his veteran coach Ram Singh and a recovery hiatus of seven long years, Shukla finally got back onto his feet and took to the track, but this time he went barefoot. Just when all seemed good, Shashwat was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder in the year 2014. Despite all odds, the lad mentioned to a leading daily, that with the support of his family and friends, especially his grandfather and Ram Singh, he managed to complete his undergraduate degree in commerce as well as learn to play the flute and work on building his physical and mental strength alongside.

ShaswatThey say hard work and dedication pays off and success came in all its glory to Shukla this Sunday as managed to set a world record in 15 kilometres barefoot running. With just 58 minutes and 12 seconds, Shashwat was awarded his certificate of achievement by a UK based book of world records. The journey does not stop here for this city-based runner, he aims to fly higher, train harder and represent the county in the 2020-100K World Championship in the Netherlands. He wants to show people that one does not need expensive shoes to take home the winning cup. We are proud to say that this gem is born in our city and our country and we wish him all the very best!
