Pune Man Eliminated Use Of LPG At Home By Turning Society’s Trash Into Biogas & It’s Mind Blowing!

It’s true, Punekars never fail to amaze us and we have yet another example to support our statement. City-based Priyadarshan Sahasrabuddhe has come up with a solution to effectively utilise the bio waste of his society and eliminate the use of LPG from the kitchen through his bio-plant. Talk about two birds with one stone.

wasteThe resident of Kisan Krupa apartment in Pimpri, Sahasrabuddhe devised a technique to use kitchen waste to produce biogas for his own kitchen. And finally came up with a low maintenance bio-plant that he installed in his own balcony. Since the garbage of this kitchen was not enough to produce biogas to aid his kitchen, he convinced 21 households of his building to give their trash to him.

Talking about his technique of collecting garbage and turning it into fuel, Priyadarshan Sahasrabuddhe informed Pune Mirror, “About 11 kg of waste is given to me each day, which includes remains of raw vegetables and even stale food. I have four containers with a capacity of 2 kg each. People from the building deposit their garbage in the collection bin, and my four friends - who I live with - keep on adding it to the containers.” He added, “A balloon kind of a structure has been installed, where the biogas produced from containers is stored. The balloon is connected to the pipeline stovepipe.”waste
This technique helps him produce over 600 to 700 litres of biogas and he is looking for other ways to increase the production. Further to ensure that the clean energy does not get wasted and is sufficient for his kitchen to function, he often uses other alternatives of cooking such as solar cooker. The initiative is being well received by other society residents of Kisan Krupa apartment as well and they are positive that if the technique works out well for Sahasrabuddhe they will consider running all households in the society with the clean fuel produced by the kitchen waste.
Now that’s what we call sustainable development. Isn’t it?
