No River Immersions, No Processions: Pune Police Issues Guidelines For Ganesh Chaturthi

Maharashtra’s favourite festival is around the corner and Pune Police has issued a set of guidelines to be followed during Ganesh Utsav. More on these below!

Ganesh Utsav
The auspicious Ganesh Utsav will commence on September 10 and end on September 19. However, Pune Police like last year has issued a set of guidelines that need to be followed. No riverfront immersions are allowed and there’s a complete ban on inviting celebrities or VIPs as well. Processions are completely banned too.

Pandals cannot allow more than five people at one time and should adhere to all norms. Pandals belonging to temples have been asked to set up inside the temple premises where smaller establishments will be allocated space as well. Idols in pandals should not be more than four feet and for those celebrating at home, the height of the idol is capped to two feet. Pandals cannot establish any food stalls but instead should hold blood camps, any other welfare activity.

An online token system should be introduced by the pandal organisations for devotees who wish to visit to help control the crowd. It is recommended that the transmission of aartis, pooja should be done online. If a streaming service is not possible, pandal organisers should send videos to its followers.

No immersions will take place at the riverfront nor will water tanks be set up near the riverbeds. Housing societies, mandals and temples should immerse the idols in water tanks in their own space. To control noise pollution, loudspeakers can be played only from 6 am to 10 pm. The exceptions to the rule are the fifth, seventh, 10th and 11th days!

So folks, stay safe and celebrate with near and dear ones!
