Looking for a trek to rekindle with your wild side? Look no further and head to the oh-so-gorgeous Peb Fort where you get to experience an array of adventures all in one trek. Situated close to Neral Station, Peb Fort AKA Vikatgad Fort (since the pinnacle looks like Ganesha) is a one-of-a-kind fort trek that is perfect for all adrenaline junkies and nature lovers. It is said that the fort has gotten its name from the ‘Goddess Pebi’ at the base of this glorious fort.

Trek to the Peb Fort is not your aisa waisa trek as here one gets to walk through a local village and the dense woods to reach the fort. Not only this, during monsoon, the visitors also get to enjoy pristine waterfalls gushing through the rocks after frequent intervals which is a treat in itself. The entire terrain to the trek is quite rocky and has many ridges too which makes it moderately difficult and it is suggested that you trek here with a group. Once you reach there, you will see a ‘staircase case to heaven’ taking you to the top of the fort. The staircase is steep and broken at various points but fortunately for you it has a railing to support you through it. On your trek to the top, you will also come across ancient caves on your way which are just wide enough for one person to enter. It is also said that Shivaji Maharaj used the caves on the fort as a place to store grains.

While you are even a teensy bit spiritual, the fort also has a small Prati Girnar temple on the cliff where you will feel like you’re at the edge of the world. A word of caution, the temple is surrounded by monkeys, so keep your belongings safe. From the mandir, you’ll also be able to see Matheran on the other side. Even though the pinnacle of the Peb Fort offers a panoramic view of the Sahyadris which is absolutely breath-taking, the journey to the destination is full of adventures too which makes it the perfect getaway after a long house arrest. Peb Fort is situated on the Matheran Mountains and one way to reach it is from the Neral trek which is approximately a two hour stretch.
