Diners, Get Ready To See 3D Models Of Dishes Before You Order Them In Pune Restaurants

Are you one of those who takes forever to make up their mind about which dish to order? Restaurants in Pune have come up with an interesting solution to help you decide. The diners of Pune will soon be able to see 3D models of the food items on the menu thus giving them all the information about the dishes all thanks to peAR Technologies.

Started in 2019, Mumbai-based startup, peAR Technologies is all set to revolutionise our dining experience. Courtesy of this startup, the customer will now have a better idea of what to expect from the dish as they will be able to see a 3D model of the dish when they order it. Thus making it easier for them to make an informed decision and reducing the risk of disappointment. The startup is all set to launch the project by the first week of September and is already working with more than 100 restaurants around Fergusson College.

Spilling the beans about this ambitious project, Dharmin Vora informed The Indian Express, “When it comes to ordering a meal at a restaurant, you look at a paper-based menu, read the names and description of items and imagine what these might look like. In India, there might be 100 items but you would have less than half-dozen photos. For the diner at a restaurant, it is like shooting arrows in the dark because you hope that whatever is served is good. What we do is let you see your food as it would look on your table, before you buy it. For this, we use AR and other technologies.”

Besides showing the 3D model of the dish, the app also improves the diner’s experience by recommending dishes based on what the customer ordered the last time. The team has already captured over 300 images of each item at restaurants and puts it in the proprietor’s computer system that converts the pictures into 3D models. The ongoing COVID-19 situation has further helped their cause and made restaurants adapt to digitisation faster.

Now, like every great discovery, this invention too has an interesting story behind it. The idea emerged after Dharmin, a food blogger, Parth and Dhruvesh ordered a pancake at a restaurant and were extremely disappointed with what they got. Instead of the standard three pancakes, only one pancake was served and that's when the trio decided that nobody should face a similar problem.
So next time you are ordering, you wouldn’t be in for surprises cos you’ll get what you see.
