We Finally Have A Peek Inside The Navi Mumbai International Airport & 'WOW' Doesn't Even Cover It!

A project Navi Mumbaikars and Mumbaikars alike have been ardently waiting for is the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). Greenfield airport near Panvel was scheduled to begin operations in four phases, with it kicking off last year. But then the lockdown happened and now we don't have a set date for the same.

But what we do have is a peek into what it is going to look like! Yep! GVK, who is in charge of NMIA's design, just revealed a first look of sorts video of the new airport and it is wowza! The new airport is designed by Zaha Hadid Architects (the firm also designed Daxing International Airport, Beijing).

Inspired by lotus motifs, the architecture of the new airport is breathtaking. The airport will have three terminals, one is a central forecourt and then there are two terminals along the flanks. There are two parallel runways that will enable simultaneous operations. When ready, the NMIA will handle a passenger load of about 90 million per year. Currently, CSMIA (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj  Airport handles about 40-50 million passengers each year!

Well, that's not it! The new airport will be connected to an expressway, a metro line, suburban railway, and a water transport link. Not only that, there are two entrances (Western and Eastern) divided on the mode of operations.

The video has surely teased us enough and we cannot wait to head there to hop on to a flight and fly somewhere. There's no word out on when it will begin operations. All that we can do now is wait. We are sure these pictures have teased you enough, so how about you take a walkthrough through this video?

Impressive, right?! Let's hope it begins its operations soon enough. What do you think about the design and facilities? Let us know in the comments section below.
