7 Ways To Spend A Fun Day In Agonda, One Of Goa’s Most Pristine Beaches.

Yoga by the beach or singing along to some lovely tunes as you sip on delicious cocktails. Sounds like a dream holiday right? Well, you can do all this and more if you make a trip to Agonda, South Goa. Read on to know more.

1. Live the beach life

Agonda

And why else would you come to this lovely slice of heaven?! South Goa has some of the most pristine beaches in the country and it’s a treat to just walk around one and chill at a shack. While you will see many tourists flocking to the beach, Agonda beach is way less commercial as compared to Anjuna and Baga up in the North. So you can easily claim one patch of the beach as your own and chill there till the sunset.

2. Shopping at the Agonda market

Now before I took a trip here, I was fervently told that I need to do all my shopping in Palolem or buy swimsuits beforehand because Agonda doesn’t have many options. Turns out, Agonda has a full-fledged market where you can buy everything from clothes to bags to curios to whatever you need. It is smaller than the one in Palolem and a little steeper but in case if you forgot to pack something for your trip or need to go swimsuit shopping, don’t panic you will find everything here.

3. Shack it up

The entire point of going to the South is to spend time on the beach and thankfully Agonda has a number of shacks just lined up on the beach. Each hut resort has a restaurant attached to it where you can chill and enjoy a meal at while staring at the waves. No matter what your budget is, you can find accommodation here. Most of these beach huts also offer complimentary breakfast so make sure that you call ahead and confirm the same.

4. Have a pleasant dinner at Kopi Desa

This lovely restaurant located in the Agonda town is Goa personified. Lovely drinks, fairy lights, friendly staff and (if you are as lucky as we were) live music! Yours truly was in a particularly bad mood when she went out for dinner but lightened up the moment she caught the vibe of the place. Kopi Desa is known for its cocktail menu and serves some great pizzas. On a busy night, you have to be a little patient though. One thing to note, they only accept cash, no cards.

5. Enroll in a Yoga class

 Yoga

If you are a novice or a Yoga master, this is the place to practice your skills. You will see many tourists just meditating by the beach or practicing their Surya Namaskar in the morning. You can also enrol for classes at places like Sampoorna Yoga which offer teacher training sessions and also walk in classes.

6. Trek to Butterfly Beach

If you thought Agonda is secluded then wait till you see Butterfly Beach. This pristine beach is accessible through a boat tour or a trek. The boat tour costs around Rs.1500 to Rs.2000 and they usually also take you to spots where you can see dolphins. If you want to trek however, you can take your vehicle (preferably scooty) upto a certain point. Then walk it down to the beach through a forest area, the trek should ideally take you around 20-25 minutes. Make sure you carry lots of water and mosquito repellant.

7. Head to Palolem

Palolem

If you are not like me and get irked by the quietude of the beach town, then you can certainly head to the livelier Palolem. Depending on traffic, Palolem is about 18-25 minutes away by scooty. While it is still not as happening as Baga, you will still find more options in terms of nightclubs and bars here than Agonda. Plus, the market here is a little cheaper, so this is a good place to buy souvenirs in bulk.

Hot Tips:

  • Make sure you carry enough cash before coming here, while most resorts accept GPay and Paytm, many restaurants and cafes don’t. Also, since it is a small town, there is only one ATM in the market, which sadly was out of service most of the time.
  • The road from Agonda to Palolem is super isolated in some places and has no street lights. So make sure that you have enough fuel in your vehicle before making the trip.
  • The mobile network is sketchy and if you are an Airtel user then be prepared for a total blackout. Most restaurants and resorts have free wifi so be sure to request them for the password.

Now that you know what all to do in Agonda, plans made?
