Soon Mumbaikars Will Be Able To Watch Movies In Local Trains

If you think your local train journeys in Mumbai's suburban network were not entertaining enough (yes we are talking about the cat-fights, live wrestling matches, spats and lot more), then wait till July and Indian Railways will take care of your infotainment. In a first of a kind initiative, Central Line of Indian Railways will be setting up WiFi hotspots which will give you Internet access to an app which will have content for your entertainment.

It's like in-flight applications various airlines offer, the difference here is that it is on surface rather than in air. In order to access the content via WiFi, you have to download a mobile app that is presently being developed. When downloaded, you get to pick your preferred language and watch movies, listen to music and consume curated content.

The trial will first happen in Kurla carshed and then will be introduced on other stations. It will take around four months to be fully functional. This will also be a big boost for revenue generation for railways via advertisements on app.

In other news, Western Railway has plans to give free WiFi access to the passengers and we can't wait for that either.
As per personal observation, people do consume a lot of content on their electronic devices and watch web-series, movies and listen to music while commuting. But the network is very flaky. With the introduction of hotspots and mobile apps, we think people will get to enjoy more and their 'yatra' will truly be 'sukhad'.
