Visit This Farm For A Weekend Of Horsing Around

Located just 80 kilometres from Mumbai and 110 kilometres from Pune, the Royal Marwari stud farm is a spot you can travel to with the whole family for a weekend of horse riding, camping out by a lake and indulging in local meals.

Founded four years ago by avid equestrian Harnish Patel, Royal Marwari stud farm is located at Nandgaon (Karjat), at the foothills of the Bhimashankar hills, and about a two-hour drive from Mumbai and tad more from Pune. While they breed horses, they’re also a good spot to learn about the creatures and interact with them.

You can partake in innumerable activities at the farm, such as horse riding, take a dip in the lake or go for a ride in the surrounding jungle, or just visit the farm to relish some local food. In fact, being so close to the hills, it also offers tranquil accommodation for trekkers.

We chose to travel in a big group with kids, and Harnish planned a day filled with horse riding, an evening by the lake and plied us with food cooked by the local caretakers. We ensured that our meal preference, especially for kids, was communicated well-in-advance. They also had a fridge to stock our drinks and water bottles. It’s best to wear comfortable sports shoes and if you opt for the jungle walk, wear full sleeves and keep repellant handy. The route to and from the farm is a drive towards the interiors of Nandgaon village. Since we were not staying the night at the farm, we packed up early in the evening to avoid any concerns for kids during the drive back home.
