While Mumbai is one of the most congested cities in the world, it does have some pockets of peace and quiet. Nestled in some spots in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are some pretty lakes that are worth a visit. Head here to escape the chaos of the city and reconnect with nature.

1. Vihar Lake 


Located in Sanjay Gandhi National Park, the Vihar Lake is one the biggest lakes in Mumbai. A manmade lake built way back in the year 1860, the lake is surrounded by the dense forests in the national park. This is the best place to escape the cacophony of the crowded city of Mumbai and spend some quiet time with bae. The place is home to some unique fauna and even crocodiles are known to reside here.

2. Powai Lake

The gorgeous Powai Lake has a walking path around it. You can take a nice stroll here early in the morning. It is advisable to watch out for crocodiles! This place is also known to be a bird watcher’s paradise and is a great place to just relax amidst nature. There are also many parks in the vicinity which are perfect for a walk or picnics.

3. Chota Kashmir Lake

People, there's a Chota Kashmir here and the peace and serenity is almost like the original Kashmir. Nestled in the city's green lung, Aarey Colony, Chota Kashmir is Mumbai's best kept open secret. There's one Kashmir Lake here too. It is right opposite to the street of Chota Kashmir entrance. People who love to boat can enjoy boating across 4 acres of lake. Despite being in the heart of the suburb of Goregaon, this place will offer you solitude like no other.

4. Upvan Lake

Thane has some of the prettiest lakes in the MMR area. The Upvan Lake is touted to be the most beautiful lake in the city. With Yeoor hills set against as a backdrop, it is located at the foothills of Thane's hill station. This lake is especially popular amongst young couples and is also known as lover’s lake. *wink*

5. Tulsi Lake


The second largest lake in Mumbai, this too is located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park area. This is a freshwater lake and is known for its serenity and peace and quiet. Many people plan walks and trek up to this area and come here especially during the early mornings or during sunsets to capture some glorious pics. Head here rejuvenate yourself and some pretty pics to your feed.
