Weddings In The Time Of COVID: What The ‘New Normal’ Looks Like For Makeup Artists

With the ongoing pandemic, the size of wedding parties has surely reduced but that in no way has mellowed the enthusiasm of brides for their big day! As weddings are moving to smaller venues and home events to limit the number of people, more and more bridal makeup artists find themselves called to the clients homes for their services.

City-based bridal makeup artists including Vidhi Kadam, Kajol Paswwan, Vasanta Bijlani and many more; are experiencing a big change in client demands. While most clients request the makeup artists to wear a mask, gloves and a shield; some others insist on a full PPE kit. Creating the same results while wearing movement-restricting PPE kits, especially with gloves on, is another challenge for the makeup artists.

Kajol Paswan stated, “There’s been a huge demand for make-up at home for smaller weddings and celebrations. People are coming to terms with the new normal and the fact that this is what we have to live with for a while now, so they have no qualms to call a make-up artist over . Till now no one has asked me to take a coronavirus test, they just ask if I am fine. But they do expect me to wear a mask, shield and at times, even a PPE kit.”

Weddings that used to stretch over 3-4 days have now shortened with most people trying to squeeze in as many events as they can in a single day. In most cases, the wedding and the reception happen on the same day making it necessary for the artists to work long hours, at times the entire day. But in spite of the weddings being smaller, brides want to look their best on their special day and this has led to many wedding season special makeup trends which include glass glowy makeup and sunset eyes.
