Museums In Mumbai Have Re-opened After 11 Months, And Here's All That You Need To Know

While Mumbai unlocked bit by bit, art lovers and aficionados in the city were waiting for their paradise, museums to open up. And after a long wait of 11 months, some of the city's popular museums have finally opened doors.

Starting February 16, 2021, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (CSMVS) museum, earlier known as the Prince of Wales Museum, opened doors to the public. Located in Mumbai's art district Kala Ghoda, it is now open for visitors every day from 10 am to 3 pm. Do note that everyone, visitors and staff, are to wear a mask at all times.

But not everything is open inside yet. The main building is under renovation and remains shut for the public. But what's open are the Children's Museum, the natural history section, Karl Khandalavala gallery, and the money and jewelry gallery. News has it that the textile gallery is also expected to reopen soon. Another happy news is that the museum’s lawns are also open if you wish to relax out in the open.

Following all COVID-19 safety protocols, authorities at CSMVS are making sure that there are no more than 250-300 people at any given time. They have also reduced the ticket prices by half and will be looking at online ticket booking soon. People have to maintain social distancing at all times, and avoid crowding.

Additionally, Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, which is one of the oldest and the prettiest museums in the city, also welcomed visitors starting February 15, 2021. It is located near the Byculla Zoo and highlights Mumbai's cultural heritage and journey through the decades through its collection of fine and decorative arts.

When there, you have to wear a mask at all times and also they restrict the movement of people in groups of more than two-three people at a given time. The cafe, the education centre, and the museum library are currently shut and the museum is open six days a week. It remains open from 10 am to 5 pm, Thursday to Tuesday, and remains shut on Wednesdays.
