This 83-Year-Old Mumbai Man Has Saved More Than 20 Million Litres Of Water All By Himself!

Water, water, everywhere, not a drop to drink! We are living in a world where water is resource though in abundance, still the usable resource depleting. We are moving towards a world where water wars and scarcity are impending threats. Currently, there are parts of the world that are drought-struck and already facing water scarcity. Yet, there are countries in the world (ours included) that contribute majorly to the wastage of such a precious resource.

Amid all that chaos is this Mumbaikar superhero (can we name him Aquaman?) who has been saving each drop of water, all by himself. Meet Aabid Surti, a man of many talents. He's a National Award-winning author, playwright, writer, novelist, painter, cartoonist and more importantly an activist.

This 83-year-old man has been saving millions of litres of water from going down the drains. He knows the value of water and seen people fight for each drop while growing up on Mumbai's pavements. So, every Sunday he goes around door-to-door with his two volunteers (plumber included), knocking at residential doors and repairing leaking taps.

He founded Drop Dead Foundation, and knocks doors with a plumber and a volunteer who help him fix leaking taps free of cost. From Mira Road to neighbouring suburbs to other states as well, he has taken it upon himself to fix the leaks. He has faced his share of challenges in convincing people to let him enter their homes, but when he got a female volunteer onboard, some of his problems went away.

Do good and the world recognises you! That thought stands true for Mr Surti. There are many articles that have been written about him and praising his drive for the cause. He also got appreciation by Shah Rukh Khan on Twitter. And in 2015 he was invited on Kaun Banega Crorepati by the great Amitabh Bachchan. But he is always applauded by the locals who know about him.

Aabid Surti,

He works six days a week and dedicates few hours on Sunday to raise awareness and save water. If this one man army, at this age, can do his bit in conserving water, then even we can, right? Conserve water, get 'em leaky taps repaired immediately and do your small bit in not wasting the elixir of life!
