Mumbai Is The Best Co-Living City In India, And Here Are Reasons Why It's Great To Have A Flatmate!

Mumbai is the most preferred co-living city in India and fifth out of the 20 Asia-Pacific cities. Well, well, well. Isn't it something we all already know?! *winks*

Mumbai

According to Knight Frank's Insights on Co-living: An Asia-Pacific Perspective report, Mumbai is on the fifth position. Followed by Delhi on 11th and Bengaluru on 19th. Mumbai's weighted average score is 65, making it a top potential market for co-living in India. While the property rates are really high in the city and it provides people with a sea of opportunities, we are giving you solid reasons why it is the best city to live in when you are living with a flatmate.

1. You got a friend in him/her.friends
Like it or not, with a sharing flat you get a new friend/s. Sharing a space with someone not only proves to be more comfortable when you are good friends with your flatmate, but it is always better to have a friend on the block (in this case, in the next room or same room as yours). And, you get to do things right in your comfort zone. Movie buddy, boom! Drinking buddy, boom! Go-out-and-party with, boom! Stay-in-and-party with, boom! Shall I go on?

2. You have someone you can share utility bills with.

When you live alone, you have to bear all your expenses. *sigh* But when you are sharing a flat with someone, you got to only pay a share of it. Electricity, bai, WiFi, Gas, Rent, Maintenance, repairs, groceries, etc. You name it, you share it.

3. In sickness and in health.

Friends

When you have someone right in the other room, you know you are taken care of. Not in a nursing-you kinda way, but in a you-are-not-gonna-die-or-be-sick-without-anyone-knowing kinda way. Plus, if they are the caring kind, you will appreciate him/her more.

4. You get double ghar-ka-khana.

Either your parents visit or their parents visit, you know you are getting maa ke haath ka khana. And their parents treat you like their own child (or sometimes even better) and things are homely and lovely. Plus, if you guys become best buds, you have another homestay invite for your next trip or function.

5. It preps you in various ways.

Friends

In our country, there is an immensely strong, unsaid kinda stress on sharing homes with strangers. Arranged marriage ka concept nahi suna? Jokes apart, when you share a home with a stranger, you learn a lot of things. A lot about them but a lot more about yourself. Which ultimately preps you for a married life or a live-in relationship. Or it helps you learn that you don't wanna share your home with someone. Told ya, all kinds of things to be learnt and discovered about oneself. But then, it also teaches you how to co-exist with someone. Accept their flaws and perfections and be okay with it and get the same in return. Well, it is a hella lot like marriage. But just a preview. And you learn to make some compromises, you make some adjustments here and there in order to be happy.

Plus, it is always a nice feeling to come home to someone. Right? Who said it has to be a romantic partner only, you can come home to a friend-cum-flatmate too. But you have to be careful, huh! We have heard some flatmate horror stories too. But with the right flatmate, a city like Mumbai can be best experienced. Likh ke lelo!
