Not Cherrapunji Or Mawsynram, This Small Hill Station In Maharashtra Became India’s Wettest Place!

Monsoon mayhem continues in Maharashtra, which has become the state to receive maximum rainfall this season. Not only is Mumbai and nearby region on red alert, but the lashing rain is bringing new records to the state’s kitty. Not Cherrapunji, not Mawsynram, but Matheran was deemed as the wettest place in the country.

The weekend destination that is pretty popular, Matheran recorded rainfall in triple digits. The relentless lashes of rain have made the hill station become not only the state’s but India’s wettest place. According to IMD, it received over 440mm of rainfall during the Friday to Saturday rains. The place, along with many regions in the state, has been on red alert.


The picturesque location which is ideal for a weekend getaway, during monsoon transforms into a heavenly locale and the view from the top is to die for. Surely one for the picture books. But since the downpour has been maddening, the state government has warned people to exercise precaution.

Matheran

Not only Matheran, but at least 42 locations in Maharashtra recorded rainfall in triple digits. Reports have it that Mumbai alone has received highest July rainfall in the past five years. Many regions in and around Mumbai like Thane, Raigad, and Palghar regions of Maharashtra have been on red alert and IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall till Monday.
