10 Things You Need To Know About India’s First Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train

Imagine reaching Ahmedabad from Mumbai, and vice versa, in just a matter of a few hours at the speed of 320 kmph, a la Japanese bullet train style. Sounds awesome, right? Well, it is. And it is possible with the very ambitious bullet train project by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL).

State-of-the-art, Japan’s E5 Shinkansen technology will run these trains and here’s all you need to know about India’s first Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train:

1. The bullet train project kick started in 2017. The foundation stone was laid in that year,

2. It will cover a distance of 500 km (approximately) between the two cities in just about 3 hours. *woah* Usually, it takes about 7 hours to commute between Mumbai and Ahmedabad via train.

3. It will start from Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and end at Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Railway Station.

4. In addition to luxe feels, the train will have multi-purpose rooms. From meeting feeding mothers’ requirements to sick rooms to having refreshment rooms, they have it all. There will also be separate washrooms for men and women, separate toilets and urinals.

5. One multi-purpose room will have folding beds, baggage racks and mirrors. Tea and coffee maker? Yep, that too!

6. Out of the 500 km stretch, there is a 7 km-long underwater tunnel stretch in Mumbai. Oh, damn! 348.04 km will fall in Gujarat, 155.76 km will fall in Maharashtra and 4.3 km in Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

7. The train will cover 12 railway stations in total. They are Mumbai, Vapi, Thane, Boisar, Vadodara, Virar, Sabarmati, Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora, and Ahmedabad.

8. Four of the stations will have a theme symbolic to their respective city. Like the Surat one will be diamond-shaped.

9. A section of the train corridor will be operational  by 2022 and the whole project will start by 2023.

10. NHSRCL has already started hiring staffers and it will employ thousands of personnel.
