Sahar Ayyappa Shiva Parvati Temple is situated in Mumbai’s Andheri East and was established back in 1974 when a few devotees joined hands to celebrate the Mandala Vilakku synchronizing with the Mandala Pooja Celebrations at Holy Sabarimala.

During a Devaprasnam (an astrological ritual carried out to interpret the will of the gods) which was conducted in September 1988, it was felt that the presiding deities, Lord Shiva and Devi Parvathi, need proper shelter. In the subsequent meeting, the Committee of the Sangham decided to renovate the temple and make a Sreekovil as per Vastu. You’ll find the place beautiful and peaceful for sure.

This beautiful temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva in the form of a Babul tree, thus the name “Babulnath”. The foundation of the temple was originally laid in the 12th Century. The idols, however, were rediscovered in the 1700s.

Besides the idyllic architecture and a sense of calm and peace that this place exudes, the temple is located on a hillock and you need to climb up a bit. There are three more idols present inside the temple - Ganesh, Hanuman, and Parvati. Since this temple is an important part of the city, it has been rebuilt and refurbished many times over the years. The current structure was built in the 1890s and till the 1980s, this was the tallest structure in the city.
