Buy Photographs And Artwork That Won’t Break The Bank At This Famous Photographer’s Kala Ghoda Shop

An empty wall can be a drab space, but looked at another way, it’s also a blank canvas. If you’re looking to fill up that canvas with art but can’t afford to splurge, dayDREAM at Kala Ghoda, with its affordable, quirky artwork, might be the answer to your prayers.

dayDREAM started as just that – a dream that photographer Prasad Naik and designer and photographer Manish Mansinh had when they studied together at Sir J J School of Art. A slip of a place in Kala Ghoda, step inside to be led down a small corridor crowded with artwork, which opens out onto an equally tiny room with walls covered in art prints, canvases and postcards – a lot of it Naik and Mansinh’s own work, along with the work of up-and-coming artists.

Cityscapes, shots of Mumbai’s architecture, and moody portraits standout. For the pop culture fiend, prints of icons like Charlie Chaplin, Alfred Hitchcock, Bruce Lee, Elvis, and Frida Kahlo jostle for space with kitsch posters with quotes. The prints and canvases come in different sizes and are sold unframed (you can get them framed in-house), and you can even order a print in the size of your choosing. A little coffee table with a black and white photograph forming the tabletop caught our eye. It comes with foldable legs and can be ordered with any of the shop’s prints on it – a cute but practical addition to a smaller living space.

Opened in April last year, Naik and Mansinh’s twofold goal in starting dayDREAM was to give new artists a platform to display and sell their work and to make art more accessible to the public. With their little store in Mumbai’s art district, they have realised the first, and by starting their prices at Rs 2,500, they have achieved the latter as well!
