Bandra Gets Another Recreational Ground, One More Open Space For Residents!

Bandra residents are getting a new recreational ground after BMC demolished illegal structures on the ground at the junction of St Martin's and Dr Raghunath Road. It is a 14,830 sq ft plot that will be made available to the public soon.

The plot was given to Bandra Physical and Cultural Association in 1989 for a 60-year lease at an annual rent of Re 1 per year. But the space that was used by residents was gradually replaced by structures. On Monday, BMC grazed down illegal structures on the plot and will give the space back to residents after the removal of debris.

The land was supposed to be an open space but was converted into a gymnasium and was allegedly used for commercial activities. In 2017, the residents started a movement to take back the plot. And the hard work finally paid off!
The residents will be able to enjoy another open space in the crammed up city.
