Their flavours are authentic and you’ll be literally reminded of Madras with every bite you take! The sambhar curry is just perfectly spiced and the flavours of chutney melt in your mouth. Established in 1932 and located in Matunga East, Koolar & Co. is your quintessential Irani cafe that serves delicious Parsi eats. Popular amongst locals not just for the food but also for its old-world charm; this is our pick for authentic Irani fare! Their Bun-Maska, Brun-Butter-Honey-Cheese, Irani Chai, Chicken cutlets and Keema Pav. But this time, we decided to try out something else. We tried their specialty dish, the owner-recommended Irani Wrestler Omelette. Made with a recipe suggested by a real Iranian wrestler(originally made with 30 eggs); the recipe still exists as close as possible to its original version.

We can’t help but recommend this place to all you ardent lovers of South Indian food! This place is a vegetarian joint and is also not very heavy on the pocket! They serve an unlimited thali which is served to you on a banana leaf and includes items like gravy, rice, veggies, buttermilk, sambhar and more. You will surely leave with happy tummies from here.

It is said to be the place that literally cemented a corner for Udipi restaurants in Mumbai. Like most Udipi restaurants, Café Mysore, it seems, hasn’t changed for generations and thank God for that. People don’t mind queuing up on Sundays to gorge on special items like Pao Bhaji, Ragi Dosa and Cucumber Dosa that make guest appearances (different off-the-menu surprises every Sunday). A. Ramanayak’s 78-year old authentic South Indian restaurant offers everything, from the tangy rasam to the spongy idlis to spicy sambhar to crispy dosas.

This place gets brownie points for not making their sambhar sweet!

Douse your idli cravings here and indulge in piping hot and fluffy idlis, freshly made, smothered in spicy sambhar and coconut chutney. Aah! And once you’re here you’ll definitely lose count of the number of idlis you’ve chomped down cuz they’re so goood! This place is quick with their service and is squeaky clean!
