Sealdah Station Gets West Bengal's First Executive Lounge

Waiting rooms just got interesting at Sealdah Junction. IRCTC opens Bengal's first feature-rich executive lounges with food, soft beds, shower and a lot more. Your waiting time simply got better.

Train schedules in India are hectic and people tend to take it for granted that it will cause a delay than its usual routine. Give or take, you must have at least an hour in hand prior to the arrival or departure timings. So how do you basically kill this time? Well, there are waiting rooms for each travelling class and a bunch of platform benches and even the floor which serve as sleeping grounds for some.

Now we wouldn't be writing this if we hadn't found that Sealdah Junction finally does justice to your waiting time. The IRCTC just opened Bengal's first fully-refurbished Executive Lounge at Sealdah and honestly, Kolkatans couldn't be happier.

Sealdah is one of the most important junctions in East India and as per statistics, and one of the busiest in the entire nation too, with a daily footfall of over 2 million. The junction serves as an alternate route from Howrah allowing some major trains such as Rajdhani and Duronto in the north, north-western, north-eastern and eastern states. Quite obviously, the number of passengers travelling to a distance is quite large and this Executive Lounge seems like a Poila Baisakh gift from IRCTC.

The Executive Lounges are airport-styled and are much similar to the premium lounges at New Delhi. What makes your stay worth are the plethora of facilities that make your waiting time comfortable. The beds are comfortable, there are shower facilities, breakfast and food; and a lot more to make you enjoy your stay. People, who need to travel long distances, can book the place with their PNR and ticket at Sealdah itself without much hassle. It is a sure shot of marvel for families who have a long waiting time or whose trains have been cancelled or rescheduled. As an added advantage, you do not need to carry your luggage everywhere. Simply leave it behind in the cloakroom and come back at your scheduled train time!
