Nathu La Pass Holds The Record For The Second Highest ATM In The World

Did you that India’s highest ATM is in Sikkim and it also happens to be the second highest in the world?

Travelling has become way more convenient with the distribution of automated teller machines all over the country, and we have been spared the horror of carrying bundles of cash wherever we go! As incredible as it sounds, you can cast aside your worries of running out of cash (if there is an emergency) even atop the majestic mountains and difficult terrain because there is no dearth of ATMs in unimaginable places that are pretty hard to access.

What if we told you that you can come across the highest ATM in the country at a jaw-dropping elevation of 14,300 feet? Way back on December 12, 2003, UTI Bank had launched its new ATM counter at a breathtaking height of 13,200 feet in Thegu, which is located in close proximity to the renowned Nathu La Pass in Sikkim. Beating this record, the Union Bank Of India had inaugurated its new ATM machine at an unbelievable altitude of 14,300 feet at Kupup and it is now regarded as being the highest one in India. Nathu La Pass has always been a dream destination for adventure lovers in spite of the fact that it is undoubtedly one of the most dangerous roads in the world!

We are sure to get goosebumps while withdrawing cash from the ATM machine, no doubt whatsoever. Though this ATM counter is meant primarily for the use of Indian army jawans posted at the Sino-India border, the tourists visiting the international mountain pass can also have access to it. In fact, Kupup occupied the tag of being home to the highest ATM in the world until the record was recently beaten by the new ATM counter at an awe-inspiring elevation of 16,007 feet at the Khunjerab Pass along the Pak-China border in Pakistan.
