New Rum Makazai Has Hit The Goan Shores And It's Time To Rejoice Folks!

When listing down our fave things, a new spirit in town always finds a mention on our list. And 2021 has brought with it a new Goan rum that has just hit the shores. We are talking about Makazai Rum that is all things nice and all things spice.
Started by a banker-turned-distiller, Kasturi Banerjee, Makazai means "I want" in Konkani. And seeing this beaut we are definitely exclaiming that! Makazai Rum is India’s newest premium rum brand on the block and comes with two variants.
One is Bartender’s Edition which is the white rum and the other one is the Tribute Edition which is the gold rum. The Bartender's Edition, as the name suggests, is dedicated to all the bartenders around the globe. This one is light with floral tones and hints of sugarcane. It is medium-bodied and you can sip it away neat on the rocks like no biggie. It goes very well with cocktails.
The Tribute Edition is the finer one, more premium, and gold edition. It has a nice creamy mouthfeel and has the notes of praline, fig, and honey. It is defined as a blend of molasses spirit and an oak barrel-aged rum.

Now coming to what's in it and where from, this brand is in-and-out vocal for local. They get the molasses from western India. Their bottles, which are easy to hold and really elegant, are made in Firozabad; while the caps are made in Meerut. Their mascot is a hip Olive Ridley turtle that is significant to the turtles that come and lay eggs on Goan shores.
Ain't it cool? Well, we cannot absolutely wait to lay our hands on this and sip away! At the moment, Makazai Rum is only available in Goa and who knows, soon they will take over India in a jiffy!
