Goa Will Soon Welcome You To India’s First Sand Dune Park, & Here's What's In Store

Yes we all love Goa for its endless waters and beautiful sandy beaches, but have you ever wondered about this sand that separates and protects our terrestrial habitats from the deep blue. Sand dunes are, in themselves, a whole ecosystem that has been neglected by the State tourism as well as tourists, but not anymore!

Morjim

India’s first Sand Dune Park is all set to come up on the beaches of Morjim in North Goa and Galgibaga in South Goa. Here, sand dunes will be preserved along with protecting the fragile and already scanty dune vegetation. Special nurseries will be built to grow dune vegetation and replantation activities will also be carried out in regions of scanty vegetation. Along with the revival of the dunes, thematic and interpretation centres will be made which will educate locals and tourists alike about the importance of preserving sand dunes.

Sand dunes are geological sand deposits found in deserts, inland and along coasts. They’re essentially hills of loose sand formed due to the action of wind or water. Each dune ecosystem, apart from its vegetation, is also home to snakes, lizards, rodents, and other animals. A Sand Dune Park tries to conserve the ecological diversity, both flora and fauna, of the specified region.

GOA

The World Bank has already accepted the proposal of the Biodiversity Board for this project and a sum of Rs 3 crore has also been sanctioned. The NGT, GCZMA, PWD, and other authorities will partake in these restoration efforts. When completed, not only will this project give a huge boost to tourism in Goa but it will also transform the garbage strewn beaches into pristine havens!
