Welding Shops In Shaheen Bagh Turn Into Free Oxygen Cylinder Distribution & Refilling Centres!

As the supply of oxygen becomes the need of the hour in Delhi, various welding shops in Shaheen Bagh are turning into centres for free oxygen cylinders and refilling!
Sharib Hassan, a member of an NGO, says “Many are coming for cylinders while some want a refill. We managed to get 200 cylinders from Mohan Industrial Estate on Tuesday night but they were exhausted by Wednesday morning. We distributed the gas for free to individuals and private hospitals. Now we are refilling cylinders either without charge or accepting Rs 130 for a 15-litre cylinder and Rs 200 for a 30-litre cylinder.”

While some looking for Oxygen concentrators are finding it difficult as suppliers are facing a shortage of it.

While these good samaritans are doing their best, they are facing a few challenges including the hoarding of oxygen cylinders and their skyrocketing prices! “We are getting people from all over Delhi, many of whom have never been to Shaheen Bagh and have traveled long distances to get a gas cylinder”, says Waseem Malik, owner of Waseem Gases in Shaheen Bagh. “We got some oxygen cylinders after much difficulty and have resumed distribution from Wednesday morning. These are 10-litre cylinders that have suddenly become expensive. Some suppliers are even asking for Rs 20,000 for a small cylinder that actually cost Rs 7,000!”, he adds.

Lately, Shaheen Bagh has become a hotspot for oxygen demand and supply in Delhi. Various welding shop owners are getting numerous calls day and night and are putting in undying efforts for nothing in return! Well, it’s true that not all heroes wear capes!
