Delhi Unlock 5: Restaurants Allowed To Operate 24/7! Weekly Markets & Cinema Halls To Re-Open

The CM has issued orders to allow all restaurants to remain open 24x7, with focus on all essential safety measures.

On Wednesday, CM Arvind Kejriwal gave permission to all weekly markets in Delhi to reopen. Additionally, cinema halls have also been allowed to welcome viewers from October 15 onwards. Till now, only two specific markets in the city had the permission to resume daily operations in all the zones in Delhi. The chief minister believes that this will bring great relief to all the poor people in the city who have been struggling to survive due to the pandemic.

On the same day, the chief minister also called for a meeting to to ease restrictions on restaurant business operations. Basically, the city government is trying to figure out ways in which it can revive the badly affected hospitality industry in Delhi. The CM has issued orders to allow all restaurants to remain open 24x7, with focus on all essential safety measures. There has also been a relaxation on various license-related restrictions. At present, restaurants can remain open between 11 am and 11 pm in Delhi. Those serving liquor may operate till 1 am. About 20,000 restaurants are registered for business in the capital city, out of which around 650 have the license to serve alcohol. Some of the relaxations include abolishing the license for health trade and tourism, both of which were earlier mandatory for all restaurants. Ease on excise duty and allowing restaurants to stock more liquor is also a part of the plan to revive the F&B industry.

In a statement to the press, the Delhi government said that upon the appeal of restaurant owners to grant permission for 24x7 operation, it has been agreed that these entities could remain open throughout the day (and night), though they would need to sign an undertaking for the same. The security and health of the restaurant staff would need to be taken complete care of by the restaurant management.

As of now, multiplexes and cinema halls have been given permission to operate with only 50% capacity.
