Tall pines, snow-capped mountains, and blossoming apple orchards - these are just some of the most noticeable contours visitors will find at Narkanda or ‘The Gateway to Apple Country‘ as it is fondly called. But, Narkanda is more than just whispering pine trees and enchanting views of the valley; the place is known among adventure lovers as India’s oldest ski destination where thousands of tourists gather every year to try their hand at this elusive sport and enjoy staying in majestic woodhouses while they’re at it.

At first look, Narkanda looks like a village out of a Wordsworth poem. The misty mornings and chilly weather there is perfect for a short vacay and if you’ve booked yourself into Honeystone Stays, you can also enjoy living in dreamy woodhouses and regale delicious pahadi food. These houses are engulfed in lush green pine plantations that offer breathtaking views of the valley; you can totally sit around a bonfire every evening and sing songs with your fam/friends. Each woodhouse also has a private sauna and fireplace, so if the weather gets too cold, you can easily regain some warmth.

Narkanda is a well connected city that you can reach from Shimla in only a couple of hours. Apart from skiing and luxurious stays, you can also look forward to visiting tourist spots like the Hatu Peak, Himalayan Bird Park, Heritage Museum,  and maybe even take a dip in Chadwick falls, and experience the thrill of travelling via Jakhu Ropeway. Skiing packages in Narkanda are easily available through several vendors, but only during the winters. Any time between March and June or September and November is great to visit the place.
