The Coaching Hub Of Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar Seems Much Like A 'Ghost Town' As All Students Leave

Around 80 per cent of the students have gone back home, some even returned just to take back their belongings.

We all know Rajinder Nagar is a hotspot for aspiring young folks to come and get coaching and prepare for various exams for their future. Whether it was for IAS, IFS or to clear any Bank exams, all the students from across the country would come here to take coaching classes. The youngsters who study usually live in rented homes in that area and are probably driving the area's economy. Which means all the restaurants, shops, etc mostly cater to these kids but now that 80 per cent of them have gone back home the area has just not become like a ghost town but also gone down on the revenue significantly.

A man who runs a Dhaba in Old Rajinder Nagar said that “We previously used to have 100 to 150 students who used to come and eat every day but now we’re barely left with 20 per cent of the orders, and those come from online sales.”

Most of the students went back home before the lockdown and during Unlock 1.0 and there are about 50-60 Dhabas in that area and even more street vendors who would sell food but none of them are there anymore.”

The once buzzing area has now turned into an eerie street with the dried up economy and no people around. Even the new sessions that were to begin this summer will now start online. Earlier where they would have around 600 students come for coaching is now all shifted online.

There is 50 coaching centre around the areas that trains people for examinations like the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) which have not been impacted much as they still have applied for online sessions. But they have definitely hurt the rest, including the brokers and real estate agents.

Many even returned back to take back all their belongings and go back home.
