From Beautiful Lace & Velvet Fabrics To Cutesy Trims & Home Decor, Nehru Place Is Full Of Surprises

There was a time when people visited Nehru Place for the renowned HP Singh only. I'll confess that's the shop I was intending to visit too till a name next to it somehow caught my attention. Sahni Fabs, the name sounded familiar, but I wasn't sure if it was reliable. And then I remembered, I had mentioned to a friend long time back that I was looking for some nice lace fabric, and she had suggested this store in Nehru Place. Well, now there was no stopping me from paying it a visit.

The thing is that there isn't just ONE Sahni Fabs store, there are a couple of them in the same square, and you'd need some help to get to the right one, depending on what you're looking for. Since I wanted lace, I had to hike up to the first floor (a staff member had to take me along, it was quite a puzzle to crack) to the store that kept all the lace yards.

The moment I entered, I knew I wasn't getting out for at least an hour; there was so much variety to look through! White, ivory, cream, gold, black, blue- you name it and they have that same colour lace resting on the shelf. I wanted something in ivory, and hence ended up looking at a bunch of exquisite floral designs in different patterns- dense, scattered, semi-dense and so on. Some even had beautiful roping and silver patching to highlight the lace. The other colour lace fabrics like gold and blue had embellishments like pearls, beads and sequins as well, and looked absolutely stunning. These fabrics typically range between Rs 750 and Rs 1,000 a meter. 

Besides fabrics, Sahni Fabs has some stunning 'latkans' for lehengas and cholis as well as beautiful borders in lace and other styles that you can pick up to finish your outfits. I also ended up having a quick look at HP Singh since it was right next door, and found some pretty velvet fabrics that were already embroidered and embellished and could easily be used to make lehenga skirts, suits, sarees and/or saree blouses. These were available in deep colours like black, burgundy, midnight blue and green among others. The Lucknowi chicken fabric collection at HP Singh was also worth having a look at. But nothing could beat the lace collection at Sahni Fabs.

On my way back, I stumbled upon a gem in the market which is otherwise known solely for its fabric stores. Tassel & Trim is a store exclusively selling decorative trimmings, tassels and home accessories. I could not stop myself from buying the cutesy Christmas tree decorations they had put up outside the shop. They have some really cool hangings, wall decor curtain brooches, cushion tassels and other stuff you should definitely check out!
