#GreenDelhi: City Gets A New 95-Acre Forest In Najafgarh

The forest is said to have a 3 km jogging track, two small water bodies, and eco huts.

Delhi, as much as it is a museum of modern infrastructure, is also a sanctuary of natural environs. A vast expanse of  the city is covered in greenery that includes over seven biodiversity parks, innumerable smaller parks, ecological hubs, lakes, and animal sanctuaries. This expansive network of verdant surroundings has now been joined by another magnificent forest in the Najafgarh area. The eco hub, named Mitraon City Forest, was opened to the public just last Sunday after a formal inauguration ceremony featuring environmental minister Kailash Gahlot.

Mitraon City Forest is located in Pocket B of Southwest Delhi, near Najafgarh, and covers a colossal 95 acres of land that includes everything-a diverse population of flora and fauna, a 3-km jogging track, two smaller water bodies, eco huts, and more. The forest contains 37 species of trees, 17 varieties of shrubs and 25 types of herbs. Visitors at the forest would be able to spot a vast range of animal species, including golden foxes and flying foxes and more than 105 species of birds. A field guide to the forest has also been published to direct visitors to prominent attractions.

With the opening of Mitraon City Forest, residents of Pocket B and Najafgarh areas will have a beautiful natural space for their evening walks and exercise routines. The rich animal and bird population of the forest is expected to make their experience more pleasurable and enriching.
