Indian Railways Is Providing Free Food To The Needy During The Lockdown

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), which is the catering arm of the Indian Railways network, is supplying free lunch meals at railway stations.

With the migrant crisis looming large, following the 21-day lockdown announced by PM Narendra Modi, the Indian Railways is stepping up to provide food to the homeless and the needy.

IRCTC has already readied over 13 of its IRCTCs base kitchens to become nodal points of such distribution. It has supplied total 11030 lunch meal today to needy people across the country with the active support senior Railway officials of concerned Zones and Divisions. The IRCTC is providing bulk cooked food with paper plates to needy people from the locations where they have base kitchens of IRCTC.

“Social distancing norms are being followed during food distribution,” an official said. IRCTC is also preparing to meet higher demand of food for the poor during the lockdown.

The list of the base kitchens, which are located zone wise is as follows:

1. South Central Railway zone - Vijaywada
2. Western Railway zone - Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central.
3. East Coast Railway zone - Khurdha Road
4. South Eastern Railway zone - Balasore
5. Northern Railways zone - Paharganj, Delhi
6. North Central Railway zone - Jhansi, Prayagraj as well as Kanpur
7. Central Railway zone - Pune, CSMT, Sholapur as well as Bhusawal
8. West Central Railway zone - Itarsi
9. South Western Railway zone - Bangalore and Hubbali
10. Southern Railway zone - Chengalpattu,Thiruvananthapuram, Mangalore and Katpadi
11. Eastern Railway zone - Sealdah and Howrah
12. East Central Railway zone - Rajendranagar
13. North Frontier Railway zone - Katihar

1. Delhi, 5030 lunch meals were distributed
2. Bangalore, 2000 lunch meals were distributed
3. Hubballi, 700 lunch meals were distributed
4.  Bombay Central, 1500 lunch meals were distributed
5. Howrah/Sealdah, 500 lunch meals were distributed
6. Patna, 400 lunch meals were distributed
7. TATA, 400 lunch meals were distributed
8. Ranchi, 300 lunch meals were distributed
9. Kathiar, 200 lunch meals were distributed
