'Kawach' mask is priced at just Rs.45.

IIT Delhi has always been an exemplar of invention and creativity in India. Amid the ongoing crisis too the esteemed members of the university has proved its mettle once again by creating imaginative practical solutions like cheap test kits for Covid-19. This list of remarkable products invented by varsity members have now swelled further after one of its assistant professor, along with his start-up Etex, developed a new (and cheap) alternative to N-95 masks that can be used for protection against Covid-19.

Whats Hot Delhi

Created by Prof. Bipin Kumar, the mask, Kawach, is made of an infection-proof material that has the efficiency to thwart 98% of 3 micron particles in the air. The mask is at par with other N-95 masks avilable in the market in terms of fitting and filtration, but is priced at only Rs.45. Bipin Kumar's start-up - Etex - has said that it can start the shipping of the mask for orders above 100 units at immediate effect and they are also trying to scout for more funds in order to scale up the manufacturing even more.

The start-up work might prove extremely important in times when there is an acute shortage of N-95 masks in not just India but around the world. Their team is now working on a prototype of masks that are washable and can be used at least 10 times.
