A Newbie's Guide To Iftar Food In Jama Masjid

For the feast after your fasts.

The month of Ramadan is a test of great patience and abstinence for Muslims around the country. The community indulges in fasting for the entire holy month which culminates on Eid-Ul-Fitr. But, Ramadan is as much about feasting as it is about fasting. Streets and markets across Delhi grow more beckoning during the month as eateries start selling a host of delicious Mughlai dishes that attract foodies with their inviting aroma. We recently ventured into the city’s Jama Masjid locale to create a wholesome Iftar guide for Ramadan 2019.

1. Kebab @ Qureshi Kebab CornerWhats Hot Delhi

There’s no better way to start your Iftar meal in Jama Masjid then digging into some delicious mutton kebab at Qureshi Kabab Corner. Located at the start of the Gali Kababiyan, this kebab joint has been serving Delhiites succulent and smoked chicken and mutton kebabs since the last 73 years. The seating space here is a little scrounged, but the taste of the kebabs will wither away the seating discomfort in no time.

2. Fried Chicken @ Haji Mohammad HussainWhats Hot Delhi

After the smoldering hot servings of kebabs at Qureshi, it is time for you to savour Chicken Fried at Haji Mohammad Hussain. Smeared in masala and topped with a special chutney, this fried chicken will put even Colonel Sanders’ iconic recipe to shame if there was ever a competition between the two. Another special offering at Haji Mohammad Hussain is their legendary Chicken Pakora which packs a punch with its piquancy as well.

3. Butter Chicken & Kheer @ Aslam Butter ChickenWhats Hot Delhi

Aslam’s Chicken Corner in Old Delhi occupies a three-story building and is famous all over Delhi for its signature Butter Chicken. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not the creamy curry that you get at North Indian restaurants, instead they marinate the dish in about twenty spices and then dunk it into dollops of butter. End your meal here with salivating Matka Kheer to give your palate an indulgent taste of sweetness.

4. Changezi Chicken @ Al-JawaharWhats Hot Delhi

Well, if you’re tummy is already not blowing up after that immersive buttery experience at Aslam’s, the Changezi Chicken at Al-Jawahar will definitely do the trick. Honestly, we were in a little dilemma whether it is a good idea to suggest this restaurant over Karim’s, but the restaurant’s expansive seating and spicy Changezi Chicken definitely won us over. Anyway, you don’t need any special occasion to try the iconic Karim’s. Do that on a regular day.

5. Shahi Tukda @ Cool PointWhats Hot Delhi

Sheermal, Shahi Tukda, Kheer, Phirni, Badam Milk - Cool Point is the one-stop-shop in Jama Masjid for all things sweet. So, either select your poison or mix it up and go all out, it's absolutely your choice. What we can guarantee is that everything you try here will be absolutely worth every single bite.
