There are two kinds of people in this world - those who think it is natural to believe in religion and those who think nature is religion - and we clearly need more of the latter in today's world. The drive will also mark the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and as part of the celebration, DSGMC will plant over one lakh trees in all gurudwaras and Sikh educational institutions. The DSGMC is affiliated to nine colleges in Delhi University and IP University where it will make it mandatory for all freshers to plant 10 trees in the current academic session. The plantation work done by the students will be treated as an academic project and marks scored by students will be added to their annual results.

The move will also encourage the Sikh community (along with others, hopefully) to protect the earth from environmental threats. The move is also likely to see the plantation of over 55,000 new environment-friendly species this year and the DSGMC will also ensure free distribution of  saplings and plants mentioned in the Gurbani
