2021 actually recorded the lowest temperature for Delhi between the months of March and June since 2011. Crazy right?

Well, now with monsoons around the corner, the Indian Meteorological Department says that the city is even less likely to experience another heatwave in 2021. According to the Meteorological Department, a heatwave in India is recorded only when the temperature is at least 40 degrees Celsius and at least 4.5 degrees above normal temperature, or when the maximum temperature hits 45 degrees Celsius, which is usually said to be eight degrees above normal.

IMD believes that this sudden change in temperature was due to the influence of Cyclone Tauktae, wherein the city also witnessed the highest single-day rainfall in May.

In contrast, last year Delhi had recorded four heatwaves, four in 2019, three in 2018, five in 2017, and two in 2016.
