Whats Hot Delhi

Delhi is the city of music giants like Tansen and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan where Hindustani classical music flourished for centuries. But, it is indeed a surprise that the city’s rich music culture, especially classical forms, is slowly ebbing away from social life. so, in an effort to bring it back into the public sphere, the government is planning to organise classic musical concerts under its jurisdiction. The concerts will be organised at several monuments in the city during the wee hours of the morning from September onwards.

Whats Hot Delhi

Since most Hindustani Classical music concerts in the city happen in the evening, it is making people elusive to morning ragas, that have their own unique charm. Thus the government has decided to bring back this lost art form by organising concerts in the morning instead of the evening. This is also an attempt to bring people closer to their cultural heritage. The concerts will make classical music accessible to the general public, including those who cannot otherwise afford to buy expensive tickets to watch live performances.

Whats Hot Delhi

The concerts would cover both vocals and instrumentals. The first concert on September 7 would have a prominent Dhrupad artist perform on the Rudra Veena. It will be held at Gol Gumbad, a Lodhi-era monument that’s adjacent to Central Delhi from 7 am onwards. Following that, the concerts will be held at Bada Lao Ka Gumbad in Vasant Vihar and Qudsia Bagh near Kashmere Gate and so on.
