Retail liquor outlets have been capped at 849 in the city, which means a few local thekas might have to shut shop.

Delhi has just introduced a new liquor policy that is about to shake things up in the F&B industry. The new excise policy, which was drafted after hearing a petition that was filed by the Liquor Traders’ Association, was uploaded on the Delhi Government's official website on Monday.

The new policy’s main aim is to clean up malpractices, improve user experience, and bring about changes in the city’s liquor business. Some of the highlights from the policy approved by the government are:

 

1. Microbreweries will be allowed to supply draught beer in bars. They can also serve it as a takeaway option.

 

2. Draught beer can now also be served at events and banquet halls that have temporary licenses like P-10, P-10 E, etc.

3. Serving liquor is now allowed in open spaces like balconies and terraces at licensed restaurants and hotels.

 

4. To keep the virus at bay, people are prohibited from crowding outside a vendor store while purchasing liquor.

5. Clubs, hotels, restaurants, and bars will now be allowed to operate till 3 am.

 

6. Retail liquor outlets have been capped at 849 in the city, which means a few local thekas might have to shut shop.

 

7. Premium stores can only sell alcohol priced above Rs. 200 (beer) and Rs. 1000 (other spirits like gin, whiskey, vodka, etc.)
