Attend The Launch Of India’s First Online Community Radio For Alternative Music!

India will soon have its first online community radio dedicated to alternate music artistes and enthusiasts.

Despite many radio channels in the country, not even a single one is dedicated to Independent or Alternative music. This was the trigger for an idea called the Boxout.fm, which is the brainchild of music entrepreneur and promoter Mohammed Abood aka DJ MoCity. He is also one of the founders of Reggae Rajahs and also the curator for popular Pepsi Dub Station at Bacardi NH7 Weekender. 

“I returned to Delhi in May 2016 after a stint in Dubai and was wondering how I could contribute to the scene in India,” says Mohammed Abood. “The idea of an online radio station made a lot of sense to me given the way we consume music in this country. Outside of festivals, concerts and clubs, there is no space for people to listen to alternative music. I want to take music outside of the nightlife life space and even if ours is a niche audience, it’s worth tapping,” he adds.

Here’s what makes things even more exciting. The radio will be launched on April 7 and none other than producer and music collagist, Romare aka Archie Fairhurst will perform live for the very first in the country for the same. Supporting his act would be Dualist Inquiry aka Sahej Bakshi who is known for his experimentation with EDM sounds. 

Boxout.fm will be hosted by DJ MoCity, and will feature guest DJs, live sessions, interviews and discussion with the aim of continuing the mission to “explore and showcase sounds and styles that champion underground culture”.
