Whats Hot Delhi

German Bakeries are a treasure trove of dainties in all tourist towns. From Leh to Pune, these bakeries have been serving hungry travellers with luscious baked goodies and although the brand only has two official outlets in the country faux stores keep springing up at various locations in the country including the National Capital .We recently ventured to the city’s backpacking district - Paharganj - and were surprised to find one such outlet of the brand. Commonly known as the Appetite German Bakery the outlet is a mecca for foreign tourists halting in the neighbourhood.

Whats Hot Delhi

Located inside a nondescript store in the main market, Appetite had first opened its doors to customers in 1990 but soon after the staff at the restaurant was given baking less by a German tourist name Mr.Norman and soon after ‘Appetite Restaurant’ became 'Appetite German Bakery'. Although most people still visit the restaurant for affordable Indian meals like Thali and Parathas the bakery has, over the years, developed a solid clientele of cinnamon rolls and cake lovers.

Whats Hot Delhi

The vitrine at appetite is always filled with delish gooey goods like almond cake, lemon iced cake, banana cake, chocolate banana cake, chocolate cake, and cheesecake. Each dainty is still as consistent in taste as it was 19 years ago and patrons still travel long distances to just get a taste of their scrumptious vittles. The ambience of the eatery is peaceful, almost a misfit for the chaotic Paharganj market, but a glass of ginger-lemon tea couple with croissants will efface the presence of any hustle-bustle in moments of entering the serene environs of the bakery.
