174 Structures In Delhi Are Now "Monuments Of National Importance"

The expenses incurred on preserving, conserving and environmentally developing these centrally protected sites and monuments in Delhi amounted to Rs 31.87 crore.

On Tuesday, a major announcement was made by Prahlad Patel, Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, regarding the status of 174 sites and monuments in Delhi. They are now being tagged as "monuments of national importance." This decision was taken under the old Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958.

A query was raised in Rajya Sabha regarding the same, to which he replied that in the past three years, the expenses incurred on preserving, conserving and environmentally developing these centrally protected sites and monuments in Delhi amounted to Rs 31.87 crore. Some of the centrally protected sites in Delhi include Ajmeri Gate, The Tomb of Ghaziuddin Khan and Kotla Firoz Shah. Patel informed that two monuments- Inchla Wali Gumti, and the cemetery at Bara Khamba are untraceable as of now.
