The Mudhouse is a spot meant for those instances. Located in Marayoor (near Munnar, Kerala), the space believes in eco-living aka nature living. Welcoming you with its rustic beauty, this one lets you live the slow life amidst peaceful surroundings.

Unlike commercial resorts and stays, The Mudhouse has a limited number of spaces for guests – a few mud cottages and a treehouse. Following a village theme, the mud cottages feature artworks and simple furnishings, all put together in the most charming way. The treehouse aka the Erumadam is our pick, though. Giving you the loftiest sights, the place is just perfect for a romantic getaway. Apart from a lovely bedroom, it comes with an open washroom that’s done up in tune with the surroundings. 

We quite like how the folks here go all out to give you the kind of holiday you have in mind. How about switching things up with some activities? Pick up a cycle and go whizzing past the misty roads lined by forests. Go on a forest trail or take short hikes for a riverside picnic. The host or the staff will even help you find cabs/autos to visit nearby spots like Chinnar wildlife Sanctuary and Thoovanam Waterfalls. 

Want to laze around the whole time (in fact, that’s what we had in mind)? Sit back on the patio with an engaging book, look out at the garden outside or take a walk to explore the lush surroundings here. Let the views around you, the flickering fireflies, the dewy mist and the soft sounds of nature bring about the sense of quiet calmness you’ve been longing for. You’ll also find a selection of books and games to keep you busy. Common spaces like the kitchen and the dining area can also be accessed by the guests.
