Watching the sky change colours as the sun slowly slips below the horizon is a beautiful, calming and almost therapeutic sight that has an undeniably soothing effect on the mind.

As it happens, even in a concrete jungle like Bangalore, there are some vantage points from which you can take in this majestic sight in all its glory. So, whether you wish to behold it on your own, or with friends, family, or even your significant other, head over to these sunset points in Bangalore and experience the beauty of Mother Nature!

The sight of the sun setting over the placid waters of Kaikondrahalli Lake, seemingly turning the water orange as it sinks ever so slowly, is a majestic one on its own. Add to that the various migratory birds that can be found in the vicinity and the lush green surroundings - the whole scene seems straight out of a movie or a postcard. While the jogging track encircling the lake is a great place to take in the view while embarking on a relaxing evening stroll or run, you can also enjoy a lovely picnic on the lakeshore if your evening plans are a little more relaxed in nature.

2. Skandagiri

Located about 60 km away from Bangalore (but well worth the trip) Skandagiri is a mountain fortress that overlooks the Nandi Hills. While the view from the foot of this peak is quite stunning, it gets better as you go up the mountain, culminating in a quite spectacular vista from the peak, at a height of about 1,450 m. This is a popular trekking spot, with the trip up to the top of the mountain taking two to three hours, so you can plan an exciting day out around this trek. History buffs will appreciate this location as well, as it is home to ruins of the fortress of Tipu Sultan.

3. Sankey Tank

Although this 37-acre lake was built to keep up with the ever-increasing water consumption demands of the expanding city of 19th-century Bangalore, Sankey Tank happens to be one of its most popular sunset spots as well. The sounds of birds chirping accompany the sight of the setting sun, all of which you can enjoy from the comfort of the benches that are dotted all around the lake. Post-sunset, you can enjoy authentic South Indian snacks at some popular establishments in the vicinity, putting a suitable final flourish on a lovely date night!

4. The 13th Floor

The beauty of a sunset can only be enhanced by adding some delicious food and refreshing drinks to the mix, which is why The 13th Floor bar and restaurant in Barton Centre on MG Road is such a favourite among locals. Take in the sky’s changing hues and the spellbinding cityscape with a drink in your hand, a snack by your side, and your friends around you, and you’re sure to have a great time - not to mention some great additions to your Instagram feed!

5. Ulsoor Lake

A man-made lake located right in the middle of bustling Bangalore, Ulsoor Lake is something of an escape into nature without leaving the city at all. If you’re someone who feels drawn to water, you’ll enjoy boating on the lake, or simply taking a walk around it. The sight of the setting sun reflecting on the lake surface has the power to refresh and rejuvenate the soul, so if you head over after a particularly tiring day, you’re sure to leave feeling much better!
