You Won't Have To Miss Ranga Shankara's Popular Mango Party This Year; It's Going Digital!

Every year, Ranga Shankara sees a crowd of mango-lovers descending on the theatre space for their daylong Mango Party. Celebrating (and eating) mangoes while listening to stories and songs, the landmark event is part of a tradition that's nearly two decades old. And it's getting a digital makeover this year!

Being an icon in Bangalore’s arts and theatre scene, Ranga Shankara has added to the city’s rich cultural tapestry with everything from theatre festivals to events marking special occasions. Their annual Mango Party, started way back in 2003 during the theatre’s construction phase (yes, it’s older than the space itself!), is one such event Bangaloreans look forward to every year.

Held every June, the one-day event celebrates the King of Fruits with songs, stories and competitions revolving around mangoes. And, of course, plenty of mangoes to be savoured as well. Owing to the current situation, this year, the folks at Ranga Shankara have decided to take the party online!

While we will miss helping ourselves to yum mangoes, their digital event schedule looks exciting enough! Think you’re an expert on mangoes? Sign up for their Mango Part Quiz and put your knowledge to the test. The quiz rounds will be hosted by Vivek Madan, Sihi Kahi Chandru, MD Pallavi and Arundhati Nag. The winners of their kids’ storytelling contest will be announced during the event and you’ll get to listen to the winning mango-based stories. What we’re most excited about would be the best mango recipes, picked from a contest held earlier this month. The selected dishes will be prepared at the Ranga Shankara and the videos will be up for you to watch on their Facebook page.

But that’s not all! Sit back as literary figures, Jayanth Kaikini, Dundiraaj, Apara and Jogi recite poems that they’ve written especially for the Mango Party. Oh, and Anju (who runs the café) has whipped up delicious, fruity dishes as part of the café’s special mango-based menu. This Sunday’s clearly going to be mangolicious!
