Bangalore can be tricky to navigate even while driving. And when it comes to running, you need to find the best paths to build up your speed and stamina. Here are the best running routes in the city to help you map your next early morning run.

Ulsoor Lake

One of the oldest lakes in the city, this one was turned into a circle of greenery. The lush foliage on both sides of the running path trailing the edges of the lake is perfect for a morning jog. With the lake sidling along with its cool waters, the air is always pleasantly refreshing. You can turn to the long teeming pathway as early as 6 am and get a running start to the day. The specially-developed path extends along the western side for about 1.5 kms, but the entire lap around the lake spans 3 kms. An early morning run here will give you perfect glimpses of the sunrise waking the birds from the trees.

Cubbon Park

With perfectly paved roads crisscrossing all around the 300-acre stretch, you can have endless running laps right in the middle of the busiest streets of the city. If you follow all the exit points around the perimeter, you will finish 5 kms in one round of the park. The lush green grass and blooming canopies of the trees make for a perfect path shaded in most areas. The best part about having such a large space at hand is that you can customise your own route to build your speed every day. 

Sankey Tank

With the perfect location of Sankey Tank in Malleshwaram, it is a popular spot for joggers. The brimming waters of the reservoir are right next to the 2.5 km stretch of dedicated walkway. You can warm up in the wee hours of the morning and break out into flat runs without breaking a sweat with the brisk air flowing freely all around. The green shrubs lining the pathway along with the metal railing weaved with ornate lamp-posts make for a pretty sight too. With drinking water and bathrooms on the premises, you can cool down after an hour or two of intense exercise with complete ease. 

Kanteerava Stadium

What better place to hone your running skills than a stadium utterly dedicated to sports? The massive 24,000 seater stadium features racing tracks for ardent runners to strengthen their speed with a professional infrastructure to back them. The 400-metre track, made with synthetic material of international standards is the starting point for any budding runners and is open for public use. If you’d like you can even venture to try some of the other activities like rock-climbing walls or football. 

Bugle Rock Park

Located right next to the famous Bull Temple in Basavanagudi, this park has an interesting part in Bangalore’s history. Today, the sprawling park is full of lush green trees. The 1.8 km cobblestone-lined track attracts runners in droves every morning. Decathlon Trail

The off-road trail behind Decathlon gives an amazing opportunity to build speed, strength and stamina. Lalbagh

How could any list of running spots be complete without Lalbagh’s winding paths? The enormous 240-acres provide long stretches of green-lined paths to stretch out your limbs right in one of the busiest parts of the city. Best of all, you don’t need to worry about entry fees if you’re heading to the tracks between 6 to 9 in the morning or 6 to 7 in the evening. The wide paved pathways span around 3.2 kms when running along the vast perimeter of the park. And when there are endless views of the beautifully maintained park, the lake, the glasshouse and more to occupy the eye, you can never get tired of going for the morning run.
