While Bangalore Metro’s work in constructing new stations and creating a better network of public transport is commendable, the project seems to be disrupting quite a few lives, going by reports. According to a recent news article, the authorities are going to demolish the Technical Training Centre for the Deaf (TTCD) - an ITI establishment for speech and hearing impaired students located in Bamboo Bazaar (Shivaji Nagar) – in order to construct the Cantonment Metro Station. This would mean 65 special students will be evicted with no place to go to!

Hoping to help rehabilitate these kids, an online petition has been created on Change.org, urging people to add their signatures to it. Titled ‘Rehabilitate 65 Deaf students at TTCD, Bengaluru before its demolition #MakeOurFutureSound’, the petition has already gathered over 11,000 signatures and needs 4,000 more to reach its target of 15,000.

Even amidst reports of issues like unpaid salaries for the TTCD staff and illegal sub-leasing of the land by the NGO which was managing the institute, there has been no official comment from the concerned authorities. Before these kids lose their home, let’s all join hands, add to the petition and do our bit to help them.
