Nagasri Book House In Jayanagar Has Been Old Bangalore's Treasure Trove For Books Since 1976

Standing tall for over four decades, Nagasri Book House in Jayanagar, with its collection of classics and Kannada works, is among the few of its kind in the city.

Anyone who is familiar with Jayanagar BDA Complex is bound to feel slightly disoriented at the sight of the shopping spot now. With a stark white structure looming beside the older complex, the place looks like a sad mix of the buzzing hub it used to be. And, right in the midst of this confusing bunch of shops, you’ll find Nagasri Book House, a humble bookstore that will give you a glimpse of old Bangalore’s charm. Started in 1976, the store is run by Venkatesh KV and Guru Prasad, who are always happy to engage in a hearty conversation with their customers.

While Nagasri has plenty of new titles that range from fiction to non-fiction, what you must check out here would be their classics. Whether it’s good old Shakespearean tomes, Penguin special editions or Jules Verne’s works, their collection is a delight to browse through. When you’re done, there are Indian authors and popular books as well. However, make sure not to leave without checking out their Kannada titles (or at least let Venkatesh or Guru Prasad give you an overview of it). Right from Kuvempu to TK Rama Rao, Kannada writers deservedly get the spotlight at Nagasri. Stick around for a chat, spend time reading in a corner or just walk about, taking in the glorious smell of books all around. We’re pretty sure you’ll end up trekking back to Jayanagar for this slice of nostalgic, old Bangalore.
